In 1973, Leslie's father, Karl Schakel, was considering buying a new airplane for his business, Western Land Investment Corporation.
He invited us along for a test flight with one of the salesmen.
We started out over the flat lands and then progressed to the Rocky Mountains where the salesman wanted to make a dramatic point.
As we were looking down over the Rocky Mountains, he shut down one of the two engines to demonstrate how safe the plane was with only one engine.
